Mindful March is an awareness month, whereby individuals are encouraged to focus on their mental and physical health, in an attempt to improve both. At JRG, we believe that greatness starts with our employee’s happiness, and for this reason we felt that Mindful March would be a great activity to get the JRG family involved in.
Mindfulness means paying attention to the present moment without judgement. It is about appreciating the present instead of worrying about the past or future. Research has shown that practicing mindfulness is effective in reducing stress-related symptoms such as worry, depression and physical tension – all of which have a negative impact on you and your work!
So, why not take some time out of your hectic life and get your body and mind into the moment?
Our version of Mindful March at JRG focused on mindful exercise. We divided our family into smaller teams, led by our VPs, and each team submitted their distance in KM for the week. The distance could have been accumulated by any means of exercise, such as running, walking or cycling.
All our employees were encouraged to take photographs of their exercise routes and share with the team their experience after. This led to more exercise, conversation and ultimately happiness. With our team being global, we saw runs across Miami Beaches, strolls in New York, country walks in the United Kingdom, bike rides across the Philippines and many more!
